I love this video. I think that the reason that like this video so much is the muted colours with splashes of stronger colour. Also it is surreal in a magical way. Enjoy!

Maria Sybilla Merian

This is an picture by my favorite illustrator Maria Sybilla Merian (1614-1717). I think that her images have inspired me more than any other artist. When she started painting there were very little, if any, female illustrators. Maria was the first to document the metamorphosis of moths and butterflies. At the time it was the general belief was that insects were born from the devil out of mud. She documented the insects life cycles and their habitats in her illustrations.

Florilegium

This is the front cover of a Florilegium book of Alexander Marshal dating back to C17th. I am tring to analyse why I like this image so much. I like that it is a scientific illustration with more dramatic aspects, slightly strained poses adding some tension to the art.
